Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), in partnership with PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center, is seeking an Adult Cardiac Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join a busy and well established adult cardiac surgery practice in Vancouver, Washington, part of the greater Portland, Oregon metropolitan area.
This position is employed by OHSU and provides clinical services at PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center. The APP will join a collaborative team currently consisting of two attending cardiac surgeons and four experienced APPs, supporting a high quality cardiac surgery program known for excellent outcomes, teamwork, and strong collegial culture.
This position is full time (1.0 FTE) and is represented by the Oregon Nurses Association – Advanced Practice United (ONA APU).
Position Overview
The Adult Cardiac Surgery APP provides comprehensive care across the cardiac surgical continuum, including operative first assist, ICU and inpatient management, perioperative care, outpatient evaluation and follow up, and participation in call coverage. The role supports a predominantly inpatient and operative practice model, providing care across the surgical continuum through operative first-assist, inpatient and ICU management, outpatient care, and participation in call coverage.
The APP works closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure safe, efficient, and highquality care from preoperative evaluation through hospitalization and postoperative follow up.
Key Responsibilities
Operating Room: First assisting for adult cardiac surgical procedures, including CABG, valve and aortic procedures; performs endoscopic vein harvesting experience (EVH) and radial artery harvesting.
Inpatient Care: ICU and intermediate care management of postoperative cardiac surgery patients, daily rounding, consultations, care coordination, and discharge planning
Outpatient Care: Preoperative evaluations, postoperative follow up visits, wound care, and clinic coverage to support continuity of care
Call Coverage: Participation in a home call rotation, including overnight and holiday call
Schedule & Coverage
Scheduled 10-hour clinical shifts (7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.), including weekday, weekend, and holiday clinical shifts.
Home call by pager, including required holiday and overnight call, proportionate to FTE
Practice Environment
The program performs more than 420 adult cardiac surgical cases annually and supports a growing structural heart program, including TAVR and multidisciplinary Heart Team activities.

Qualifications
Required
Master’s degree in Physician Assistant/Associate or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program (ACNP or AG-ACNP)
Current or eligible Oregon and Washington licensure, appropriate to discipline
Physician Associates: current NCCPA certification
Nurse Practitioners: current APRN licensure and RNFA certification
Ability to obtain and maintain credentialing at both OHSU and PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center
Current BLS and ACLS certification
Current DEA registration or eligibility to obtain
Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary cardiothoracic surgery team
Preferred
Two or more years of adult cardiac surgery experience
Experience with endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH)
Experience with radial artery harvesting
Prior inpatient surgical or critical care experience
